My weekend as an "escort"

Back in December, I went to a Christmas party thrown by an old friend of mine, K, from Alaska and his fiancee, A. They'd moved to Denver this summer so that K could go to law school, and we had finally reconnected. The party was very pleasant, and at one point later in the evening, I got to chatting with F, A's boss from work. I gave F a hug when he left, and both K and A said that he seemed extremely pleased/flattered by it. *shrug*

After F left, I chatted with K and A about things. I made vague, pleasant comments about F, and K and A started talking with me about him. They said that F was divorced (much older--old enough to be my father), had devoted most of his life to work, and was now finally starting to ease back into the dating scene. They mentioned that he was there partially to try and find a date to A and F's company's annual retreat, held in January in Phoenix. Jokingly, I said I'd go, that I cleaned up pretty well and made decently good "arm candy," as A put it. K and A got kind of excited about the idea, K talking it up and saying what a good time we'd have--F and A would be in conferences all day, he and I could wander around and hang out, catch up, we could all go shopping or something, yadda yadda. So I told A to pass along to F that I wouldn't mind going, that it could be fun.

I went up to Steamboat a couple of days later to work for Greg, so received A's email that F liked the idea and said that there would be "no expectations." J and Greg were both hinky about it, but I put my trust in K and A, who said he was a good guy. I talked further with F while I was up there, specifically mentioning "husband" multiple times and talking about J and I. A big part of me decided to go in the first place "just because," just to be spur-of-the-moment and impetuous and footloose. I arranged with my neighbor to watch Peabody and it was all good, so why not?
